The Samsung Tech Advanced Research (STAR) Center is a world class center for advanced research in software technologies that combines the engineering strengths of Samsung with the diverse, in-depth research strengths of the College of Computing (CoC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The mission of the STAR center is to carry out cutting-edge research in areas of software technologies and to produce globally significant research results toward realizing digital convergence revolution.

The STAR center establishes a permanent presence for Samsung Electronics on the Georgia Tech campus. Located in the Klaus Advanced Computing Building, the STAR center provides Samsung access to the vibrant student population, bringing together the expertise of graduate and undergraduate scholars through both short-term internships and long-term employment.

STAR center research projects are fully funded by Samsung. The STAR center invites white papers from faculty to be presented at annual workshops to select innovative new research projects.

The STAR center fosters exchange of research personnel between Samsung and the College of Computing. In addition to carrying out research of mutual interest, the STAR center organizes short courses and thematic workshops on site in Samsung, S. Korea, aimed at skills training for Samsung engineers. Further, the STAR center leads summer institutes on chosen topics each year for Samsung engineers and opens the Georgia Tech campus to its valued partners.
